Adeleke retains Osun as governor floors Oyebamiji by over 66,000 votes

A 66,252-vote margin has handed Governor Ademola Adeleke victory in the Osun State governorship election, allowing him to retain his seat for another four years.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner after the final collation of results from all 30 local government areas of the state on Sunday morning.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.

The result gave the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes, as he successfully defended his position against the APC challenge.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.

The returning officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, declared that Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned elected.

The victory extends Adeleke’s tenure beyond his first term, which began in 2022, and gives him another four years at the helm of Osun State.
